Francine Rivers is an excellent author, and if you liked Redeeming Love, I'd highly recommend A Voice in the Wind, and then the sequel to that, An Echo in the Darkness. AN ECHO IN THE DARKNESS by Francine Rivers is the second book in the Mark of the Lion trilogy. In the wake of the ScienceOnline 2011 conference, a familiar spectre has reared its inevitable head – the echo-chamber argument. #2 An Echo in the Darkness: Turning away from the opulence of Rome, Marcus is led by a whispering voice from the past into a journey that could set him free from the darkness of his soul. I don't think it would be something for my book club. The narrator is essentially considering suicide. The nature of depression is so individualized and cryptic that efforts to depict it can feel like trying to catch an echo. In the end, the narrator goes on to say that he would “leap into the dark, if dark were true,” which the Echo verifies is correct. I read this one for Joy's 2nds Challenge. This darkness is a symbol for death.
